READ is a rich inventory of EPA’s applications/systems, models and datasets. However, there is much work that remains to make READ fully comprehensive.

The most immediate work is to ensure READ is comprehensive and that the records in READ are fully populated. While READ records for the larger EPA applications and systems are robust, many of the records for the smaller applications and systems have gaps. Filling this information and keeping existing information up-to-date will be a continuous effort. In addition, models and datasets must be added and their metadata captured.

More broadly, EPA is working to integrate READ with various IT management tools. Several actions already have been taken: READ collects information that is currently utilized by EPA’s Enterprise Architecture (EA) team through exporting the READ data for incorporation into the EA team’s application.

Work is also underway to integrate READ with data collection tools for security and investment management. Applicable information in READ will populate equivalent fields in the security and investment management systems thus reducing duplicative data collection and redundancy.

In addition, EPA expects to integrate READ with tools that store metadata about models and datasets. READ, for example, would serve as a one-stop resource for metadata about EPA datasets and would create linkages to special dataset inventories such as the GeoData Gateway (GDG) that support geospatial efforts.
