September 16, 2002

  • The System of Registries (SoR) is released as the centralized data registry that provides an authoritative source of information critical to data integration and exchange between EPA and its partners. The SoR supports the Agency's environmental information network by uniquely identifying objects of interest to EPA including information resources, facilities, chemicals, biological organisms, and data elements.
  • READ is released as part of the centralized System of Registries (SoR), which provides access to the Agency's core registry systems. The new system design integrates several core Agency registries including the Environmental Data Registry (EDR), the Terminology Reference System (TRS), the Substance Registry System (SRS), the Chemical Registry System (CRS) and the Biology Registry System (BioRS). This integration promotes Agency information standards activities and helps make Agency metadata information more meaningful. Fully populated records have been added for demonstration purposes and include Risk Management Plans Information (RMP*Info), Storage and Retrieval for Water Quality Data (STORET), Safe Drinking Water Information System/Federal Version (SDWIS/FED), and the Environmental Data Registry (EDR).
  • Several lists related to TSCA were updated in the SRS, including TSCA 8A PAIR, TSCA 8D HSDC, TSCA 5A SNURS, TSCA 4 Term, and TSCATS 2.0.
  • The EDR Code Sets page now includes updated 2002 NAICS codes, published in the Federal Register on January 16, 2001. Construction and wholesale trade are substantially changed, but the revisions also modify a number of retail classifications and the organization of the information sector.
  • A draft of the Contact Information data standard is available on the EDR Data Standards page.
  • The Summer 2002 issue of the Standard Update is available on the EDR Newsletter page. It provides an overview of the new EDR compare tool, outlines State and EPA data standards activities, and outlines work being done to support standardization of XML usage.
  • Additional permissible values have been added for the Permit Compliance System (PCS) data elements in the EDR.

March 29, 2002

  • In response to an initiative to standardize the look and feel of EPA's Web sites, the EDR and its associated registries have been redesigned. This change does not affect the registries' functional capabilities.
