Code Sets

Code Sets contain permissible values, value meaning names, and value meaning definitions that can be used in applications. The Code Sets below have values associated with EPA Data Standards, with national/international standards, or contain lists of values commonly used by EPA programs. When you select a Code Set, please review the information provided, including the example list of values, to determine if the set meets your data needs. Then select download and specify the file format to download. Select the Code Set name from the Quick Reference section. Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude Geometric Type Names All names that identify the geometric entities represented by a sequence of points determined by geographic coordinates. Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude Horizontal Collection Method Codes All codes that represent methods used to determine the horizontal geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude) of a point. Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude Horizontal Collection Method Names All text that describes methods of determining horizontal coordinates (latitude and longitude). Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude Horizontal Reference Datum Codes All codes that identify the horizontal reference datum of the latitude and longitude. Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude Horizontal Reference Datum Names All text that describes the horizontal reference datum used to determine latitude and longitude coordinates. Facility Identification Latitude/Longitude NAICS Primary Indicators All names that indicate whether the associated NAICS Code represents the primary activity occurring at the facility site. Facility Identification North American U.S. National Industry Classification System (NAICS) Codes All codes that represent a subdivision of an industry in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) that accommodates user needs in the United States. This is the 6-digit NAICS code. Facility Identification SIC/NAICS Program System Names All names of information management systems. Facility Identification Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes All the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes that describe the primary economic activities of business establishments. This a 4-digit SIC code. Facility Identification SIC/NAICS State Codes All alphabetic codes that represent the name of a principal administrative subdivision of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Contact Information State Names All names for states of the U.S., U.S. territories and possessions, Mexican states, and Canadian provinces. Facility Identification Contact Information Tribal Codes All codes associated with tribal entities that are recognized and eligible for funding and services from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) by virtue of their status as Indian tribes. The Tribal Identifier Standard adopted the Bureau of Indian Affairs criteria of tribal entity identification (federally recognized tribes) and is not intended for the identification of geographic, demographic or economic tribal areas. Tribal Identifer Tribal Land Names All U.S. Census Bureau names for all tribal lands, as well as their associated trust lands or individual trust lands within the U.S., found in the current Census 90 publication. Units of Measure All structural constituents that are used as the determinate quantity when measuring the extent of something, including distance, area, mass, temperature, rate, volume, density, and other determinations that are used in evaluations.
